I have a lot of running things to discuss today. None of it is really related, so, uh…sorry in advance. There are pictures and even a song to entice you through the read. 😉 First off, I haven’t been feeling the “running love” lately. In brief: I’m still fighting a bit of a cold so it’s just one of those weeks I suppose. I’m happy to report the knee is behaving in it’s neoprene band…bonus!
Today things started out great but my lungs soon protested. I coughed a bit as I ran but I did not want to walk or slow down because the rest of my body was enjoying the run. This resulted in coughing more and having to expel some icky-ness, bleck. I sure felt like a man when I had to spit on the side of the road. 😛
I ran for a half hour at a surprisingly faster pace than I thought (4:45 min/km) then I slowed down a little and all the sudden felt dizzy and like I was going to pass out. Soooo I thought I’d better walk awhile. Once I felt better I continued on with my run for another half hour at a slower run/jog (5:45 min/km). I then walked for more time than usual after for no particular reason other than I was enjoying the outdoors. 🙂
Because I had felt ok for the last half of my run and the long cooldown I thought everything was peachy. However, while I was in the shower I got another bout of dizziness and felt like I might fall. Now this was accompanied by nausea. Excellent. I hurried up and finished. I decided to down a glass of water and eat a banana with some peanut butter and sit down. My cough came back for a few hours but it’s finally settled now. So annoying. Stupid colds! I have a feeling I won’t be able to go so long tomorrow. Humph.
Oh and I noticed that my iliopsoas (some of my hip muscles) seem to be ridiculously tight. I guess it’s time to start doing strengthening exercises for them. I find most stretching boring and usually skip it until something gives me trouble, haha.
Also, I forgot to mention that I had music with me but only pulled it out when I was walking. “Never Enough” by The
Cure came on first which is a particularly energizing song. This made me think that I need suggestions for running songs because I don’t have many.
My music taste are really diverse: I love classic rock, hard rock, metal, indie, alternative, acoustic, folk, classical, jazz, opera, a LITTLE bit of classic country. Mostly I listen to grunge and things influenced from that period. I do (hate to admit it) find techno, house, and a LIMITED amount of rap songs easy to run to due to the strong beats. Not much of a pop person but there is the odd song I like. I also tend to like songs in foreign languages. So basically I’ll give anything a listen. If you’d like to give me a few of your stand-by running songs I’d appreciate it!
Now that I’ve probably van Gogh’ed your ears from “talking” so much I’ll leave the other topics I have for another day.
